I am a big fan of crime novels. Any type, really. Suspense, thrillers, I devour them all. Serial killers? The more, the better.
So, in an attempt to unveil the secret behind my fascination, I will set up a few pages for series of books, where the development of a certain character, mostly the investigator, can be followed. Provided the writer know what he’s doing, this can make for a continuous interest in the whole series resulting in an association comparable to a tv series.
I think, the first ever series I picked up was John Sandford’s Prey novels “starring” Lucas Davenport. I lost track of the series somewhere after the 8th or 9th part, but it was fun to read. The first page I prepared is one of my all-time favourites, Connelly’s Bosch series.
Ken Bruen’s Brant and Taylor series will be the next two, I think, as they’re the most current – just finished Brant, in the middle of the disturbingly good Taylor books. I am sure, at some point, there will be space for John Rebus, and yes(!), Marlowe, and a few other classics.
